The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for assigning and leading the day-to-day activities of facility personnel assigned to the Transportation Department. This position will manage a variety of distribution center activities in an accurate, efficient and cost-effective manner. The successful candidate will foster a work environment of inclusion, so everyone can succeed.
Manage day-to-day activities including order/route management, inventory management, employee performance, and daily communication with internal/external customers and senior management.
Ensure all employees are adequately trained and are competent to perform their assigned tasks.
Conduct employee performance reviews and provide meaningful feedback for employee development.
Identify and implement improvements in overall workflow and standard work practices.
Monitor carrier movement from shipper to receiver to ensure load is delivered on time and in the intended condition. Follow up on service failures and take corrective measures.
Source, negotiate and assign transportation providers that meet the financial and service expectations of company commitments. Both internal and external.
Compile, analyze and distribute department KPIs and reporting along with benchmarks and targets to provide a clear indication of department performance, trends, and potential problem areas.
Manage the auditing and freight bill authorization process and ensure payments are made in timely manner.
Lead the Carrier Claims process: Investigation, Filing, Follow-up and Claims Payment.
Provide support to cross-functional departments for all transport/stock issues, special shipments or late notice requests
Promote a safe environment and meet safety requirements complying with company policies and regulations.
Complete other duties and responsibilities as required.
Ability to manage multiple priorities across projects.
Ability to make sound business and cost avoidance decisions when faced with a degree of ambiguity and complexity.
Demonstrates understanding and application of management approaches for work direction, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Ability to conduct financial analysis from data collection to conclusions.
Familiarity and understanding of hazardous shipments and CFR49.
Communicates and cooperates with other departments such as Sales, Purchasing, Accounts Payables and Human Resources to ensure best business practices.
Communicates about organizational changes to ensure buy-in to the change, explains the reasons for change and effectively communicates the change plan.
Achieves results while upholding ethics, integrity, compliance and company values.

Education and Experience:
College degree preferred.
Three to Five years of experience supervising the transportation function in a distribution environment
Hands on experience with ERP, WMS and TMS software is required. AS 400 preferred
Automotive and Retail distribution experience is a plus
Proficient skills in Microsoft standard desktop applications including Word, PowerPoint, Exchange, Visio, and Project. Advanced Excel required: V-lookups, Pivot Tables and General Excel Formulas and Functions.
